“And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.” – Isaiah 6:4
Are you stronger than a pillar?
The voice of the creatures sounded and the temple shook, even the pillars. “Holy, Holy, Holy, Holy!” Pillars are not built to shiver – they are built to withstand outstanding pressures. They are meant to hold up entire portions of buildings. One who is strong in the community is often called a pillar. They hold up some portion of it that is essential. But in the temple of God, even pillars shake.
So I ask again, are you stronger than a pillar?
You might answer, “no”, because you know the right answer, but let me ask more questions.
Do you regard sin in your heart? Do you harbor bitterness toward your brother in the Lord for something they did or said? Are you still justifying the way you yelled at your wife and children? Do you still think that you were right to act as you did? Do you still hang and cling to your decision to insult that fellow online? Do you believe that your children are better than the kids across the street? Are you still imagining what life would be like if you could find yourself in the arms of another?
These are the kinds of things that strengthen you in such a way so that you do NOT shake in the presence of the Lord. You stand here, you have heard of the greatness of God, yet, you have not shaken. You barely notice that something happened.
Are you stronger than a pillar?
Come now, you who harbor sin. Repent and be shaken. Lay down that burden of sin. Confess it and ask for forgiveness. And because God is true and faithful to His own word, he assures us that He will forgive us our sins.
