It’s Only By The Blood of The Lamb

In this post, I’ll share a hymn I wrote for church worship. Intended either for opening hymn, or even meditation before confession of sin.

It’s only by the blood of the lamb.

The covenant of God was established in the era of grace through blood. The first shedding of blood, of screen, was after Adam and Eve sinned by eating the forbidden fruit. Blood made atonement for their wrong doing.

Later on we find that the way to worship God and reconnect with God was first to get right with God – something had to die for your sin. The entire book of Leviticus does explains in detail how these sacrifices were to take place. However I would venture to assert that they’ve taken place like that for a while. Leviticus 17:11 says that lifeblood makes atonement. Hebrews 9:22 says that without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

But God doesn’t stop at forgiveness of sin. His desire is dwell with his people. Ultimately we see Christ dying once and for all – every sin taken care of through one death. Ephesians 1:7 says that we have redemption through his blood. 1 Peter 1:18-19, says that we were redeemed from an empty life! Through his blood.

But God’s desire is to dwell with you. This is what the tabernacle and temple were for. A place for God to come and dwell with His people. A place to meet with God. Exodus 25:8-9. This place was very much akin to the garden of eden. A special place to dwell with God again. 2 Chronicles 3-4 give a big description – note the way their pomegranates, palm leaves, water just outside, and the cherubim. Cherubim are gaurdian angels. They guard the throne of God. This is not unlike the flaming sword that prevented the first family from getting back into the Garden.

God desires to dwell with His people. Don’t you wanna dwell with him? He made a way, through Christ.

I included here with piano score, but also would sound great as just voices.
